Linda M. Chalupa, 59, of Ainsworth died Thursday August 12, 2010 at her residence following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 am Monday August 16, 2010 at the Ainsworth Community Church in Ainsworth with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am Sunday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Linda Mae Chalupa was born on March 18, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa the daughter of Leslie and Etta Mae (Lantz) Ross. She was raised and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield Mt. Union High School in 1969. After high school, Linda attended the Clerical Program at Southeastern Iowa Community College in Burlington. After graduation she began working in the Journalism Department at the University of Iowa as a secretary.
Linda married Duane C. Chalupa on September 18, 1971 and they settled on a farm northeast of Ainsworth where they farmed and raised four sons. Linda began working as a school lunch cook at Highland Community School in 1989, the last 8 years as head cook, and retired in 2009. Linda was a member of the Ainsworth Community Church and was involved with the Cub and Boy Scout programs in Riverside when her sons were growing up. She enjoyed traveling with her family, gardening, canning, crocheting, reading, and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her husband, Duane of Ainsworth; four sons, Brian (Anna) of Ainsworth; Kevin (Katie) of Amana; Andy (Kelly) of Ankeny; and Corey (Amber) of Waukee; five grandchildren, Carter, Courtney, Marissa, Charlie, and Owen; and two brothers, Richard and Gary Ross both of Winfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
