Lewis Glen Meeks, age 77, of Iowa City, Iowa, was called home to the Lord on April 11, 2026, after battling cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Lew’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Lew was born on September 5, 1948, in Washington, IA, the third son of Everett and Mary Louise (O’Connor) Meeks. He spent his early childhood in Ainsworth, IA, before living in southeast Arizona from ages 7 to 11. In 1959, the family returned to Ainsworth, IA.
After graduating from Highland High School in 1966, Lew assisted his father at Everett’s Standard Service and Truck Stop at the Ainsworth 4-Corners while attending Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
On September 11, 1969, he was united in marriage to Catherine Margaret Reha in Riverside, IA. They celebrated 56 years together. Within two weeks, Lew turned 21, got married, and joined the United States Navy!
Following his military service, Lew was employed by Kraft Foods in Pocatello, ID; Farmer John’s in Chino Hills, CA; Continental Grain in Mt. Sterling, KY; and Leprino Foods in Fort Morgan, CO. He was a talented man and had many skills.
Upon retirement, Lew and Cathi made their home in Prairie Grove, AR, before relocating to Iowa City, IA, in 2022 to be nearer to family.
He is survived by his brother Richard (Dick) and (Malinda) Meeks, Oskaloosa; sister-in-law Mary Lou (Mike) Koehler, Ainsworth; brother-in-law David (Donna) Reha, Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him.
Lew was preceded in death by his wife, Cathi, on October 20, 2025; his parents; Cathi’s parents; his brother, Max Meeks; his sister-in-law, Mary Meeks; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Walter Krotz; niece Melynda (Mejo) Meeks and nephew, Don Krotz, and many beloved pets, which they referred to affectionately as their kids.
