Obituary

Lester L. Butterbaugh, age 96, of Wellman died Sunday July 4, 2010 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following declining health.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm Friday July 9, 2010 at Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Celebration of Life services will be held 4:00 pm Friday July 9, 2010 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Monte Asbury officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29. Lester's body has been cremated and private burial will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Amenity Hospice, Washington County All Veteran's Memorial, and Washington County Rescue. Lester was born on September 25, 1913 in Frytown, Iowa the son of William L. and Myrtle Zoe (Dawson) Butterbaugh. He attended country school in Washington County. Lester was united in marriage to Juanita Jean Miller on October 11, 1941 in rural Washington, Iowa. Lester was a World War II Veteran, where he served in the United States Army from October of 1942 until December of 1945. He lived in the Wellman, West Chester and Washington communities all of his life. Lester worked for F.A. Moser-Division Construction Company in Farmersburg, Iowa for 30 years. He was a member of the Nazarene Church in Washington. Lester's interests included gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and Iowa Hawkeye athletics.

Lester is survived by his son, Les William Butterbaugh and wife Jo Quinlan of Cedar Rapids; son, Beryl Butterbaugh and wife Nancy of Washington; one granddaughter, LeaAnne Butterbaugh of Iowa City; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Paul and Donald; and three sisters, Veta Bringman; Wealthy Snyder; and Leanna Butterbaugh.
