Leon Frank "Mac" McNeil, age 76, of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the M.L. McCreedy Home after a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Ainsworth Community Church with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Calling hours will be held from 12:00 until 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday evening at the Ainsworth Community Church. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa at a later date. Leon F. McNeil was born January 15, 1937 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Frank and Neva (Smith) McNeil. He graduated from New London Community Schools in New London, Iowa in 1954. Leon received his Bachelor's degree in Education from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa in 1958, and later earned his Master's degree in Education Administration from Northeastern Missouri State University. Leon was united in marriage to Linda Redfern on September 27, 1964 in New London, Iowa.

Leon was a Junior High Math teacher at Highland Community School from 1965 until his retirement in 1994. He coached football, track, and basketball for the Highland Huskies and served as the Athletic Director. Leon previously taught High School Math at Tri-County Schools in What Cheer, Iowa from 1958 until 1965, where he also coached football, track, and basketball.

Leon was a member of the Ainsworth Community Church. He loved sports. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially football and basketball, and he was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals and Highland Huskies fan.

Leon is survived by his wife, Linda McNeil of Ainsworth, Iowa; son Lance McNeil and wife Robin of North Liberty, Iowa; daughter Lynnette Ammar and husband Rick of Flower Mound, Texas; daughter Leanne Bender and husband Kelby of Kalona, Iowa; six grandchildren: Aiden and Liam McNeil, Parker and Conner Ammar, and Madelyn and Morgyn Bender; brother Blaine McNeil and wife Virginia of New London, Iowa; and niece Brenda Williams and husband ShaBazz of Burlington, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
