Leland D. "Pete" Jeffries, age 88, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Vintage Hills at Prairie Trail in Ankeny, Iowa.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Keith Carlson officiating. Calling hours will begin 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Hospice.
Pete was born May 26, 1926, in Sevierville, Tennessee, the son of Charles and Merle (Pryor) Jeffries. He attended school in Tennessee before his family moved to Iowa. He later attended school in Washington, Iowa, and graduated from Washington High School. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1946-1948. He was united in marriage to Mary Erlenbush on January 18, 1953.
Pete farmed all of his life north of Washington and west of Washington. He enjoyed the time he spent at Clemmons Creek Lodge.
He is survived by one daughter, Denise Albright and husband Mark of Ankeny, Iowa; two granddaughters, Stephanie Hall and husband Matt of Ankeny, Iowa; and Jennifer Vogt and husband Colin of Ankeny, Iowa.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary in 2013; three brothers, Charles "Bill", Dean, and John Jeffries; as well as two sisters, Ruth Brown and Betty Jo Ginn.
