Leland D. Funston, age 79, of Keota, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 15th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. Interment will take place at a later date. Lee was born March 22, 1936, near Keota, Iowa, the son of Clarence Roy and Martha Perle (Perrin) Funston. He attended country school through the sixth grade and then attended school in Keota, graduating from Keota High School in 1954.

Following graduation, Lee joined the United States Air Force where he served honorably for four years. While in the Air Force, he met and married Darlene Goodwin on July 19, 1955. They moved back to Keota where Lee worked for the Farmer's Co-Op for 36 years.

He enjoyed camping and fishing. Lee was a volunteer for many years for the Keota Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene Funston of Keota, Iowa; son, Clarence Funston and wife Vilma of Keota, Iowa; three daughters: Christina Wagner of Des Moines, Iowa; Deb Sweeting and husband Scott of Iowa City, Iowa; Deanna Funston of Tierra Amarillo, New Mexico; two grandsons, Rory Funston and Michael Funston; granddaughter, Melissa Wagner; and sister, Hazel Benson of Wellman, Iowa.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; son-in-law, Denny Wagner; brother, Clarence Funston and his wife Clara; sister, Helen Benson and her husband Art; and brother-in-law, Ward Benson
