LaVerne Everett Geyer, age 82, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, January 1, 2023, following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with services conducted by Don Rabenold. Military honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the memorial service at the funeral home. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Interment will take place at the Sixteen Cemetery in What Cheer, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. LaVerne was born January 31, 1940, in What Cheer, Iowa, the son of Francis and Grace (McGimpsey) Geyer. He graduated from Washington High School in 1958. LaVerne served honorably in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Viola Jane Groom on December 31, 1965, in Washington, Iowa.
LaVerne worked at McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory for forty years where he was a binder and a Foreman. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing. LaVerne officiated high school athletic events for many years and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Sports fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Alex Geyer of Wayland, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Heather Shimon, Shane Curtis, Amanda Morrison, Dustin Curtis, Jerry Groom, Ryan Groom, Patricia Groom, Adalyn Geyer and Abby Brase; and special friend, Anita Rabenold and her son, Don of Ainsworth, Iowa.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola Jane in 2004; stillborn daughter, LaDana Jane Geyer; son, LaVerne Geyer; son, Jerry Groom; and daughters Debra Groom and Barbara Curtis. He is also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
