Larry D. Shalla, age 77, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Riverside, Iowa, died Sunday, December 27, 2015, at Halcyon House in Washington.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Visitation will begin noon Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening. Interment with military honors conducted by Richmond AmVets Post 107 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Larry Dwane Shalla was born December 4, 1938, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dwane J. and Olive L. (Clanin) Shalla. Larry attended Egypt Country School and junior high at Prairie Flower School in Washington County. He graduated from Washington High School in 1957 and received his Bachelor of Science in Farm Operations Degree from Iowa State University in 1961. He was united in marriage to Barbara Shannon on June 2, 1962, in Washington, Iowa.
Larry farmed all of his life in Jackson Township. He was a member of the Washington County and Iowa Pork Producers where he received the honor of Master Pork Producer. Larry was a member of the Iowa Corn Growers Association, and was elected to serve as a Soil Conservation District Commissioner. He was a member of Washington Masonic Lodge #26, the KAABA Shrine, and Richmond AmVets Post 107. Larry enjoyed growing sweet corn and sharing his harvest with friends and family.
He is survived by three daughters: Laurie Shalla of Redondo Beach, California; Beth Stuck and husband Steve of Des Moines, Iowa; Pam Newman and husband Don of Riverside, Iowa; and two granddaughters, Meghan and Sarah Newman of Riverside, Iowa.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; and one sister, Lana Kay Shalla.
