Larry Wilmer Lauderman, 70, of Pleasant Plain, died Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield after a one year battle with cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Linda Foor and Pastor Stan Bauer officiating. Interment will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established to Good Samaritan Hospice of Ottumwa, Christian Church Helping Hands Outreach program in Fairfield, or the Jefferson County Fair Board. Larry was born February 12, 1941 in Washington, Iowa the son of Harry Wilmer and Beulah (Baker) Lauderman. He graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1959. Following graduation he worked for United Airlines at O'Hare Airport in Chicago. Larry was united in marriage to Janice E. Reed on November 27, 1966 in Cambridge, Illinois. After his marriage he farmed in the Pleasant Plain area until his retirement. Larry raised purebred Hampshire and Duroc hogs. He was a seed corn dealer for Great Lakes Hybrid and took pride in farming with his Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors.
He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Washington. He was a Jefferson County Fair Board member. Larry was involved with the Jefferson County Pork Producers and was a member of Washington County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed spending time with family, attending his grandchildren's activities, playing cards and spending time on the farm. Larry was an avid hat collector and had several thousand hats in his collection.
Larry is survived by his mother, Beulah Lauderman of Washington; daughter, Cindy Adam of Richland; son, Bryan Lauderman and wife Bobbi of Fairfield; son, Brad Lauderman and wife Mandi of Pleasant Plain; six grandsons; one granddaughter; special friend, Dorothy Schultz of Brighton; brother-in-law, Rich Stokes of Fairfield; mother-in-law, Alice Reed of Cambridge, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Rhea Johnson and husband Mahlon of New Windsor, Illinois
He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Janice in 1987; infant son, Darin Larry Lauderman; sister, Shirley Stokes; and his father-in-law, Alvin Reed.
