Kristine “Kris” Marie Olson Tegeler, devoted mother and grandmother, was called home on September 10, 2026.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Murdoch Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Kris’ family at www.jonesfh.com.

Kris was born on July 27, 1953, in Morrison, Illinois, to Alfred Olson and Phyllis (Rick) Olson. The youngest of four children, she graduated from Morrison High School in 1972. Her father was a large animal veterinarian and Kris loved to accompany him on farm visits.

Shortly after high school, Kris met and married Jeffrey Tegeler, with whom she had three children. Kris threw herself into raising her kids, chauffeuring them to activities ranging from sports to choir to band. She loved to stay busy and have fun, and she was known for her contagious laughter, as well as the pranks she pulled on her kids, like putting the car in drive just as they went to pull the door handle to get in, or turning their music up on the stereo at stop signs, when everyone was looking, and tapping the brakes along to the bass.

She loved crafting, golfing, racquetball, and pickleball. She could twirl a mean baton. She also loved to sing and was a member of Sweet Adelines in Manchester. She adored animals and was known to bring home a “surprise” puppy or two. She was also entrepreneurial and hard-working. Even as she devoted herself to her kids, she also ran her own business, Kiss 1 Hour Photo, and over the years, she worked at department store makeup counters, sold Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Avon and Mary Kay, and made cakes to order. She also supported Jeff in his passion for buying and restoring old Victorian homes, stripping wood and wallpaper. Their marriage ended after 22 years.

Twelve years ago, Kris met Jim Figgins, whom she called “my love.” They built a life in Riverside, Iowa, and spent their winters in Texas. They liked visiting antique stores and flea markets. Jim brought not only love into Mom's life, but an extended family of daughters, in-laws, and grandchildren she came to love as her own.

Kris and Jim relished being “sideline” grandparents, showing up to cheer on every game, activity, and special moment they could. Kris loved each of her grandchildren for exactly who they were, and she lit up whenever she spoke of their accomplishments.

Her family will miss the way she used to jump out from behind doors to scare them, and the hysterical laughter that followed. They will miss her in the bleachers at her grandchildren’s ball games, or in the audience as they walk at their graduations. They take some comfort that her memory lives on in her children, Jocelyn (Todd) Wilgenbusch, Kelsey Tegeler (Jason Smith), and Jared (Jayme) Tegeler; her grandchildren, Malik, Emerson, Owen, Kaleb, Nolan, Lucas, and Lenyn; her sisters, Paula, Nadine, and Charla; Her beloved Jim and his daughters Melissa and Stacy, son-in-law Jerry, and grandchildren Madi and Brook. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, and brother Mike.
