Kenneth Joseph James Mincheski, 68, of Washington, Iowa died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday December 21, 2010 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Military Honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place in conjunction with the services. Visitation will begin 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The family will also receive friends during a time of food and fellowship immediately following the service in the Jones & Eden reception room. Ken was born November 28, 1942 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late John and Esther (Whipp) Mincheski. He graduated from Sterling Morton High School. Ken was in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Carpenter. He married Kay Thomasson on March 15, 1965. He later married Shirley Mock on December 29, 1983. Ken lived most of his life in Chicago area and in Riverside, California for 20 years. He moved to Washington, Iowa 4 years ago. He owned and operated K.D. Regional Heating and Air Conditioning. Ken was an avid racing fan. He owned and raced his own race cars. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with family.
Ken is survived by his wife, Shirley Mincheski of Washington; two children, Paulette Twinam and husband Layne of Crawfordsville, Iowa; Dustin Mincheski and wife Lisa of Willowbrook, Illinois; six grandchildren: Austin, Colton, Kristen, Jacob, Andrew, and Kristjan. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Trunzo and husband Ray of Palatine, Illinois; his brother, Jack Mincheski of Bloomingdale, Illinois; his sister-in-law, Carol Mincheski of Wheaton, Illinois; one niece and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David.
