Kenneth George Bakehouse, age 90, of Washington, Iowa died Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa after failing in health for the past several months.

Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Elm Grove Cemetery with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Ken was born August 6, 1921 in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of George W. and Hulda M. (Felmer) Bakehouse. He attended country school in Keokuk County and graduated from Sigourney High School. He attended the University of Iowa until enlisting in the United States Army in 1944. During his military service, Ken worked as a manual high speed radio operator. Following the war, Ken worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he met Irene E. Sturgeon.

Ken and Irene were united in marriage on June 22, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Together they attended professional photography school in Baltimore, Maryland. Ken and Irene then purchased Wehr's Photography Studio, later called Ken-Rene Studio, which they operated until 1993.

Ken was a member of the First Christian Church. He was very proud to have graduated from Bible School at the age of 80. Ken especially enjoyed music, and composed many songs.

He is survived by daughters Nancy Ellinger of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Julie Steele and husband John Eggenburg of Iowa City, Iowa, Lisa Brock and husband Lyle of Washington, Iowa; sister Georgene Becker of Albuquerque, New Mexico; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kathy Musgraves in 1996, and wife Irene in 1997. .
