Kenneth Randall Erickson, age 68, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, January 02, 2017, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Ken was born May 23, 1948, in Omak, Washington, the son of Alvar L. and Mary Lucy (Haralson) Erickson. He graduated from high school in Omak, Washington, and attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ken served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was united in marriage to Naomi Eekhoff on July 23, 1971, in Kanawha, Iowa.

Ken's service in Law Enforcement spanned over thirty years. He was a Sergeant with the Washington Police Department for eight years and then was a Police Officer at the University of Iowa from 1989 – 1997. He worked as a Systems Designer for Roe Heating and retired from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 2007 where he worked as a Security Officer.

Ken was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington where he served on the Church Council. He was instrumental in establishing the Explorer's Post, a program for 14 to 21 year olds interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Am'ers. Ken was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed doing leathercrafts and the fruits of his labors were enjoyed by family, friends and many law enforcement officers.

Ken is survived by his wife, Naomi Erickson of Washington, Iowa; son Christopher Erickson and wife Jessica and their children Kimberly and Nicol of New Hampton, Iowa; son Mark Erickson and wife Candace and their children Ajay, Nolan and Carson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvar and Mary Erickson; and cousins.
