Obituary

Kay Rita McCreedy Fisher, age 87, of Oxnard, California, formerly Washington, Iowa, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Sea Breeze Manor in Oxnard.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Online condolences may be sent for Kay’s family at www.jonesfh.com.

Kay was born on December 25, 1938, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Vera (Keating) McCreedy. She graduated from Washington High School and attended college to pursue a career in teaching. Kay was married to Howard T. Smith for 11 years before the couple divorced. She later married Eric Olson, and they were married for 10 years before divorcing. Kay then married Jimmy Fisher, and the two were together for 10 years before divorcing but remained good friends.

Kay lived in the Washington area for several years before relocating to California. There, she taught special education in the Los Angeles school system until her retirement. She also taught gymnastics at a Los Angeles junior high school.

Kay enjoyed many activities throughout her life. She played in a golf league at Washington Country Club for many years and enjoyed bowling when she was younger. She received her first piano at age seven and enjoyed playing throughout her life. As a young girl, she frequently went duck hunting with her father. Kay was also a member of the First Christian Church in Washington.

She is survived by her daughter, Keri Sletten of Waseca, Minnesota; and three grandchildren: Michael Sletten of Austin, Minnesota, Derek Sletten of Waseca, Minnesota, and Kristen Sletten of Lake Crystal, Minnesota.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Jeremy Sletten.
