Memorial services for Kathy Fisher will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Blair House in Washington, Iowa. Blair House is located at 205 East Washington Street, one block east of the square in Washington. Services will be conducted by Michael Zahs. The Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington is handling the arrangements.
Lola Kathleen Fisher was born September 11, 1935 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of James Richard and Oneita (Griggs) Fisher. She attended school in Haskins and West Chester, graduating from West Chester High School. She attended the University of Iowa. In the 1960's she worked for the U.S. State Department in Washington D.C. in the Security Violations Department. She returned to Washington County and worked at the Washington Public Library. Kathy wrote the West Chester Centennial History and the Washington County history book, In The Beginning There Was Land. She helped save Blair House from demolition in 1975. She was one of the co-founders of Blair House Players. She was active in Community Theater plays and musicals. She moved to Van Buren County and was librarian at the Keosauqua Library for many years. She wrote a column "Country Miles" for the Van Buren Register. Kathy also ran an antique store. She loved good food, good books, nature, and cats.
Kathy died December 1, 2009 in Keosauqua after several years of illnesses. She is survived by one brother, Ron Fisher of Arlington, Virginia; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
