Obituary
Karl Damian Krebs, age 71, of North Liberty, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at St. James Church, with Father Dane Dickinson and Father Peter Krebs officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service in Tobin Hall at St. James Parish. Karl was born on October 27, 1953, in Rapid City, South Dakota, the son of Clarence and Ruth (Deinderfer) Krebs. He graduated from Atherton High School in Louisville, Kentucky in 1971, and earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. On June 4, 1994, Karl was united in marriage to Cindy Sproule.
Karl and Cindy moved to North Liberty five years ago, after relocating from Carol Stream, Illinois, where they had previously lived. Karl worked as a civil engineer, working with AECOM in Chicago and the City of Chicago Water Department. Following Hurricane Katrina, Karl worked for FEMA.
Karl was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and previously belonged to Resurrection Catholic Church in Wayne, Illinois. He enjoyed golfing, hunting with family, and cheering on his favorite sports teams: the Kentucky Wildcats, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears.
He is survived by his wife Cindy Sproule Krebs of North Liberty, Iowa; his father, Clarence Krebs of Louisville, Kentucky; and his siblings: Joseph (Carolyn) Krebs of Paoli, Indiana; Clarence Robert (Victoria Cornelius) Krebs of St. Louis, Missouri; Michael (Laura) Krebs of Phoenix, Arizona; Nancy (Bob) Riggs of Plano, Texas; Susan Krebs of Louisville, Kentucky; Mark (fiancée Pamela) Krebs of Huntington Beach, California; and Laura (Jim) Brown of Akron, Ohio; along with 19 nieces and nephews, and three great nephews. He is also survived by his father-in-law, John Sproule of Washington, Iowa; brother-in-law, Steve (Sara) Sproule of North Liberty, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Kim Hicks of Wichita, Kansas.
Karl was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Krebs, in 2016; his sister-in-law, Torrey Krebs; and his mother-in-law, Geraldine Sproule.
