Joyce Pfeifer, age 86, of Richland, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at her residence.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Trinity Friends Church in Richland, Iowa, with Pastor Brad Cranston and Pastor Tim Hadley officiating. Calling hours will begin at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Trinity Friends Church where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Interment will take place at the Friends Cemetery in Richland, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the Friends Cemetery Association and the Richland Library. Marie Joyce Pfeifer was born October 28, 1930 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Daryl Clayton and Alice Elizabeth (Hinde) Jones. She graduated from Richland High School and from William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, receiving her Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Joyce was united in marriage to Robert Lee "Bob" Pfeifer on April 15, 1949, in Richland, Iowa.

Joyce was a school teacher for 30 years in the Pekin and Fairfield area. Following her retirement, she was a librarian in Richland for 20 years. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, David Pfeifer and wife Carolyn of Oskaloosa, Iowa; son, Steven Pfeifer and wife Candy of Richland, Iowa; son, Mark Pfeifer and wife Terry of Gary, Indiana; daughter, Tammy Gardner and husband Doug of Marion, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2015, and one son, Timothy, in 2007.
