Joy Charlene Crossett, 79, of Washington, Iowa died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Washington County Hospital following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 8th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church or Hospice of Washington County. Joy was born May 29, 1931 in Crawfordsville, Iowa the daughter of D.Uriah and Mildred (Buffington) Davis. She graduated from Wyman Community High School in 1948 and attended the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport. Joy was united in marriage to Gene E. Crossett Sr. on October 26, 1969.
Joy worked at McCleery Cumming Company in Washington for a short time and spent the next 35 years working as a Laboratory Technician for Cargill in Washington. She was member of the United Methodist Church. Joy enjoyed doing volunteer work in her retirement years.
She is survived by her step-son Gene Crossett Jr. and wife Linda of Terre Haute, Indiana; step-son Dan L. Crossett and wife Cynthia of Brighton, Iowa; three step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Merlin Davis and wife Nellie of Perry, Iowa; sister Loris Wiley and husband Vernon of Fairfield, Iowa; brother Roger Davis and wife Gladys of Winfield, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Gene in 1996.
