Obituary

John Charles Stocker, age 64, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Washington, Iowa, following a sudden illness.

John was born January 3, 1950, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Gordon and Ora (Meyers) Stocker. He graduated from Eddyville High School and later received his Criminal Justice Degree from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Donna Henning on June 22, 1971 in California.

John was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps for thirteen years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, he also served two years in the Army Reserves where he was deployed to Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Desert Fix. Following his time in the military, John worked as a Corrections Officer in California. He was the Police Chief of Keota, Iowa, from 1984 until 1989 and has resided in Washington, Iowa, since 1992. Currently John worked in transportation for United Natural Foods Inc. in Iowa City. He was a gun and rifle enthusiast and enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family and his dog, Rooster.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna Stocker of Washington, Iowa; son, Robert Osborn and wife Marsha of Douglasville, Georgia; daughter, Tammy Hittner and husband Kirk of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Rachelle Stocker of Washington, Iowa,; daughter, Laura Pruin of Waverly, Iowa; son, Glen Stocker of Washington, Iowa; son, Brian Stocker of Washington, Iowa; seven grandchildren; brother, Daniel Brown and wife Donita of Copperas Cove, Texas; brother, Max Brown and significant other Cindy, of Ottumwa, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons, and one brother, Donald Brown.
