John Edward McCarty Jr., age 61, of Washington, Iowa formerly of Glendale, Arizona, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in Washington following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Keota Cemetery in Keota, Iowa with services conducted by Fr. Larry McCarty. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for John's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com

John was born May 31, 1950 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of John and Kathleen (Maiers) McCarty. He attended school in Rapid City, South Dakota graduating from Cathedral Catholic High School.

John was a project manager for high rise steel and commercial buildings in Arizona. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed target shooting. John enjoyed reading and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Michelle McCarty and special friend B.J. Goodwin of Washington, Iowa; step daughter Kelly Kirchoff of Glendale, Arizona; step daughter Shannon Kirchoff of Glendale, Arizona; step son Ryan Kirchoff of Glendale, Arizona; ten grandchildren; brother Tom McCarty and wife Chris of Rapid City, South Dakota; sister Sheila McCarty of Arizona; friend Chris Gragg of What Cheer, Iowa as well a number of aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bobbie, daughter Amanda McCarty, grandson Taron Schiebel and one brother Patrick McCarty.
