John E. Lins, age 77, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Halcyon House in Washington after failing in health for the past two years.

Mass of the Resurrection will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 19th at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will begin noon Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The family will also receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church. Prayer services will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Wounded Warriors Project or the Caring Bridge Website. John was born February 22, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Richard and Blanche (Gesling) Lins. He attended school in Des Moines. John was united in marriage to Louise Theresa Monscour on July 16, 1956 in Washington, Iowa.

John lived most of his adult life in Washington, Iowa. He worked at as a Postal Clerk at the Washington Post office for 38 years until his retirement. In his early years, he was a plumber for Norton Plumbing. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, enjoyed fishing and woodworking. John enjoyed spending time with his family, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Tina Lins of Washington, Iowa; son, John Lins and wife Sue of Carlisle, Iowa; son, Joe Lins and wife Bonnie of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Melissa Lins of North Liberty, Iowa; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Mary Sage and husband Bruce of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and sister, Martha Watson of Fort Meyers, Florida.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law, Bill Watson.
