John Simmering, Jr., age 89, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Zachary Voss officiating. Interment will be private. John was born December 24, 1928 in Rural Washington County, Iowa, the son of John H. Sr. and Albertina Amelia (Zieglowsky) Simmering. He was united in marriage to Ruth Roseann Hesseltine on November 10, 1947 at St. Paul's Evangelical Reformed Church in Washington.

John farmed his whole life. He loved and lived to go hunting, fishing, mushrooming and hunting Indian artifacts.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Simmering of Washington, IA; son, David (Deb) Simmering of Washington, IA; daughter, Sandra (Kim) Hewitt of Morning Sun, IA; grandchildren: Rachel (Keary) Quigley of Washington, IA; Gabe (Christina) Hewitt of Morning Sun, IA; Danielle (Scott) Beik of Morning Sun, IA; and great-grandchildren: Kenzie and Maci Quigley, Hunter and Isaac Hewitt and Garrett Beik.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Donald and Ervin Simmering; and sister, Clara Sheetz.
