John R. "Jack" Carson, age 70, of Washington, Iowa died Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Washington County Hospital after failing in health for the past four months.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Jack was born August 25, 1940 in Washington, Iowa the son of W. Thomas and Lucille (Jacobson) Carson. He graduated from Washington High School in 1959 and graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield. Jack served in the United States Army. He worked as a Hearing Officer for Job Services of Iowa in their Des Moines and Burlington offices for 29 years. Jack played Bass drum in the high school band and later in the Washington Municipal Band. He enjoyed flying and had a pilot's license for many years. Jack enjoyed cars, carpentry and computers. He was an avid runner and ran many half marathons.
Jack is survived by his brother, William D. Carson and wife Patricia of Chariton, Iowa; sister, Mary M. Meeks and husband Max of Republic, Missouri; sister, Christine L. Carson of Washington, Iowa; four nieces and nephews; five great nieces and nephews and one great great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
