John Winter Berdo, age 70, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, July 26, 2021, at Halcyon House in Washington.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2021, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Calling hours will begin at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, August 1st, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Private family burial will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. John was born July 31, 1950, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Charles and Rosemary (Rolph) Berdo. He attended school in Washington graduating in 1969. John was united in marriage to Jan Ruth Wood on December 9, 1972, in Washington, Iowa.
John farmed all of his life south of Washington retiring in 2017. He was serving on the Washington County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and is Past President of the Board. John served on the Washington Community School District School Board, was a member of the Washington County Pork Producers and was a founding member of the Onion Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Berdo of Washington, Iowa; son, Dan Berdo and wife Rachel of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Mary Berdo of Milford, Connecticut; son, Mike Berdo of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren: Tess, Sarah, Grant, Jake and Ryan Berdo; and brother-in-law, Jeff Wood of Washington, Iowa.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rosemary Berdo; sister, Jayne Custer and her husband Dick Custer; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Wood; and father-in-law, Frank Wood.
