John Morris "John Boy" Beliel, age 85, of Wayland, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. Calling hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Interment with military honors will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial has been established for Hospice of Washington County. John was born April 20, 1932, in Washington, Iowa, the son of George Vincent and Dorothy (Caldwell) Beliel. He graduated from Washington High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to Iva Lois Mast on December 23, 1951, in Kalona, Iowa. John served honorably in the United States Army from 1952-1954.

John was a lifetime resident of Washington County where he farmed and was a contractor, working for DeLong Construction Inc. for 21 years. He was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge and the Eagles Club in Iowa City. John was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing, cutting wood, dancing and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Iva Beliel of Wayland, IA; son, Paul Beliel and friend Carla of Wayland, IA; son, Chris Beliel of Wayland IA; daughter, Dorothy (Stephen) Jaspering of AL; son, Edward (Cheryl) Beliel of Wayland, IA; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Driscoll of Wellman, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Rene in 1966; and brothers-in-law: Ray Driscoll and Dean Ahrens.
