Joanne Mae Bruegge, age 73, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at her residence after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Joanne was born May 14, 1939 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Robert J. and Velma (Horak) Kron. She was baptized at St. James Catholic Church. She attended school in Washington, graduating in 1957.
Joanne was employed by Washington Community Schools for twenty-five years. She was the head cook at Washington High School until her retirement in 2006. Joanne enjoyed quilting and sewing, as well as cooking, gardening, and canning. Joanne loved playing the accordion, and played in an Accordian Band while in High School.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Arnold Bruegge of Washington, Iowa; son Bryan Bruegge and wife Susan of Goshen, Indiana; daughter Cindy Secrest and husband Dan of Washington, Iowa; son Mike Bruegge and wife Shelly of Washington, Iowa; son Doug Bruegge and wife Holli of Grimes, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard "Butch" Kron and wife Janet of Riverside, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
