Joann (Schantz) Love, age 92, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at Halcyon House in Washington.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024 at Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite Church in rural Washington County with Rev. Nancy Oehler Love officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 19th at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will take place at Eicher Cemetery. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial for the Eicher Cemetery upkeep. Joann was born the second of triplets on April 18, 1931, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur and Marie (Wenger) Schantz. She attended Crawfordsville School, graduating from Crawfordsville High School in 1949. Joann was united in marriage to Willard D. "Ike" Love on September 21, 1950 at Eicher Church. Ike was a twin!

Joann and Ike started their life together farming, first in Washington County and then in Louisa County, where their oldest three children were born. The young family left the farm in 1959 when Ike started his employment with Ozark Airlines. Ike's career also took them to Clinton, Dubuque (two more children) and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Joann's focus was raising their five children (despite the odds, no multiple births), providing a warm family home, and trying out new recipes. Her family always particularly appreciated her pies. Ike and Joann moved to Washington on his retirement in 1986 where they enjoyed being near family and friends. Ike passed away in 2013.

Joann was a talented musician, playing both the flute and piano, and had a beautiful soprano voice. She loved to sing! Her favorite Sunday church services were hymn sings. She was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church in Dubuque and First Baptist Church in Washington. The family eventually grew to include sons and daughters in-laws, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family. In addition to beautiful dimples, she had a contagious laugh, and a great sense of humor. Joann moved to Halcyon House in 2017. Joann and the family were pleased with the loving care that they provided.

Joann is survived by her son, David Love of Galesburg, IL; son, Larry Love and wife Nancy of Crawfordsville, IA; daughter Sharon Ryder and husband Jeff of North Liberty, IA; daughter Renee Cue and husband Don of Oro Valley, AZ; son Loren Love and significant other Amy Ryan of Grimes, IA; brother Leonard Schantz and wife Dwanna of Los Lunas, NM; and sister-in-law Patricia Love of Reno, NV along with her loving grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant brother, Ronald; sister, Jean; sister Ruth Johnston and her husband, Dale; sister-in-law, Jacque Schantz; brother-in-law Leland Love; sister-in-law Wilma Vosburg and husband, Keith.
