Joan Lucille Venzke, age 85, of Washington, passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Joan was born August 21, 1931 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Louie A. and Viola M. L. (Rademaker) Schroeder. She attended Washington High School. Joan was united in marriage to Merle D. Venzke on February 15, 1953 in Washington, Iowa.
Joan was a lifetime resident of Washington County. She did laundry at the Washington County Hospital for 23 years until her retirement in 1996. Joan was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. Spending time with family was important to her.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Reed and husband Don of Washington, IA; one granddaughter, Donielle Reed of Washington, Iowa; sister-in-law; Bernice Darby of Kalona, IA; sister-in-law; Darlene Meeker of Grinnell, IA; and 5 nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1955; brothers-in-law; Willard Darby and Harold Meeker; 1 niece and 1 nephew.
