Joan Elaine Kerr, age 74, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Halcyon House in Washington following a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Tom Bell officiating. Visitation will begin 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Joan was born July 13, 1940, in Keosauqua, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Gladys (Story) Anderson. She attended school in West Chester, Iowa, and graduated from West Chester High School in 1958. She was united in marriage to Gary D. Putney on June 24, 1962. He preceded her in death. Joan was later married to Harold L. "Butch" Kerr on May 17, 1986, in Martinsville, Illinois.
Joan worked as an Administrative Assistant for Dr. Claire Carmen in Norfolk, Virginia, until health forced her early retirement. She had previously worked as a bank teller in Robinson, Illinois, and volunteered at the Norfolk General Hospital. Joan was an active member of the Central Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. She loved animals, spending time outdoors, going for walks and gardening. She loved music and dancing with her high school sweetheart, Butch.
She is survived by her son, Mike Putney and wife Amy of Windsor, New York; daughter, Cindy Coale and husband Jeff of Owasso, Oklahoma; step son, Christopher Kerr of Norfolk, Virginia; step son, Robin Kerr of Grants Pass, Oregon; six grandchildren: Ashley Bell, Eric Coale, Harmony Kerr, River Kerr, Joy Putney and Faith Putney; and one great grandson, Grayson Bell. She is also survived by one sister, Sherry Norman of Washington, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lois Anderson of Keota, Iowa; one niece and many nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary in 1985, husband Butch in 2011, and one brother, Larry Anderson in 2015.
