Obituary

Jimmie William Hanshaw, 73, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at WCHC following a courageous battle with cancer and pulmonary fibrosis.

Always helping others, he donated his remains to the University of Iowa. A celebration of life service will be held at Faith Baptist Church on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts can be made to Faith Baptist Church.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Marianne (Jarvis) Hanshaw; his son, Michael and wife Lori of Springville; his daughter, Wendy Gady and husbnd Barrett of Hawaii; seven grandchildren: Derek, Arianne and Kylie Hanshaw, and Shoshana, Jared, Malia and Abram Gady; brother, Gene; sister, Carma Pringle of Brighton; and many close friends. He was blessed by marrying into a loving family.

Born and raised in Pleasant Plain, Iowa, the son of Albert and Inez (Pickering) Hanshaw, he was a resident of Washington. He met his wife, Marianne, at Lake Darling and they were married in 1964 at the First Christian Church in Washington. They enjoyed raising a family, traveling and being together.

He graduated from Brighton High School in 1962 and studied at Kirkwood and Iowa State Colleges. Jim joined Northup King in research in 1963. Retiring in 2000, his career led him to various positions at NK Seeds, from research to Iowa Territory, Illinois Regional and National Special Account Sales Manager. He not only took pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he had made. Over the years, ne never got tired of visiting farms, farm managers, bankers and businesses across the USA.

Jim had a passion for helping people and said he always had friends he had never met yet. Spending time enjoying God's blessings, at the farm, enjoying his family and friends were very important to him.

He served on many boards in states, cities, counties and churches he attended where they had lived. He is a member of the Faith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry and Jerry; and sister, Janet Crosby.
