Jerry Paul Groom, age 54, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following complications from surgery.

Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Visitation will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will take place at the Crawfordsville Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Iowa. A general memorial has been established. Jerry was born April 12, 1958 in Joplin, Missouri the son of Jerry Lee Groom and Viola Jane Richardson. He attended school in Washington, Iowa.

Jerry lived in Washington, Iowa and has been a resident of Marion for the past six months. He worked construction for many years until health forced his retirement. He enjoyed working with his hands in woodworking and carpentry and was a very religious man.

He is survived by his son, Jerry Groom and wife Holly of Marion, Iowa; son, Ryan Groom and wife Erica of Oskaloosa, Iowa; daughter, Patricia Godt and husband Daniel of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren, Jerry Marshall Groom; Libby, Ryan and Aydan Groom; and Daniel Godt. He is also survived by his sister, Barb Curtis of Amana, Iowa; brother, Jerry Lee Groom Jr. and wife Susan of Springdale, Arkansas; brother, Bobby Groom and wife Lea of Carthage, Missouri; and brother, Roger Groom of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Lee Groom and Viola Jane Geyer; sister, Deb Arthur; brother, LaVerne Geyer; and an infant sister, LaDana Geyer.
