Obituary

Jeanette Elizabeth Vittetoe, age 81, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, January 15, 2017, at the Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Calling hours will begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Friday followed by Prayer services at 5:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. James Catholic Church, Washington County Mini-Bus, or the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund. Jeanette was born September 21, 1935, in Keota, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Mary (Woerdeman) Greiner. She attended school in Keota, Iowa, and graduated from Keota High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Alvin Vittetoe on April 23, 1955, in Keota, Iowa.

Following their marriage, Jeanette and Alvin lived in Keota, Iowa, moving to Washington in 1966. Jeanette was a proud homemaker and enjoyed caring for her eight children. After her family was raised, she worked in the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments of the Washington County Hospital for 12 years. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables and playing cards and games with her family and friends. She was a volunteer at Earthly Blessings and the Washington County Hospital Gift Shop. Jeanette was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Gary) Stoderl of Mt. Pleasant, IA; son, Robert (Brenda) Vittetoe of Washington, IA; son, Donald (Alicia) Vittetoe of Washington, IA; son, Gerald (Debra) Vittetoe of Washington, IA; daughter, Jean (Bruce) Tucker of ShowLow, AZ; daughter, Julie Vogel of Washington, IA; daughter, Janice (Jeff) Bell of Washington, IA; 16 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Paul (Nadine) Greiner of Keota, IA; sister, Veronica (Paul) Menke of Raymore, MO; sister, Marlene (Patrick) Clerkin of West Des Moines, IA; brother, Marlin Greiner of Keota, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin in 2009; son, Doug in 2002; and one brother, Henry Greiner.
