Jeanette Lucile Miksch, of Washington, passed away suddenly on May 7, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 19, 2016 in the main dining room of the United Presbyterian Home with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 3:30 pm. Interment will be private. A memorial has been established for the Mid Prairie Foundation Scholarship Fund. Jeanette was born November 4, 1921, the daughter of CG and Mella (Marshal) Picken. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1939 and from Parson's College. She later received her Master of Arts in Education from the University of Iowa in 1969.
Jeanette taught country school at Dutch Creek, Riverside, West Chester, Long Fellow School in Iowa City and Mid-Prairie in Wellman. She also taught at Mid-Prairie Elementary for 34 years until retiring in 1982. During retirement, she enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling and the many opportunities for community service. In 1987
She married Lawrence Leigh Miksch on June 11, 1949. They had 4 children: Julia Ruth Miksch Bates and husband Robyn of St. Mary's City, MD; Charles Leigh Miksch and wife Judith of Maricopa, AZ; Mark Meredith Miksch and wife Elizabeth of Washington, IA; and Melanie Mary Miksch Kenyon and husband Robert of Muscatine, Iowa.
Lawrence preceded her in death on November 26, 1978. She married William Walker in 1981
Jeanette had 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Justin Lawrence Bates in 2000.
