Jeanette Lucille Banks, age 90, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 21, 2021, in Washington, Iowa, following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2021, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Jeanette was born February 17, 1931, in Richmond, Iowa, the daughter of Fred Henry and Olive Jeanette (Wallace) Chalupa. She attended Richmond and Grant Elementary Schools and graduated from West Chester High School. She was united in marriage to Loyal Banks on February 17, 1949, in Washington, Iowa.
Jeanette was a life long resident of Washington County. She worked as a cake decorator at Hy-Vee Food Store for 13 years. Jeanette previously worked as a preschool assistant and was a clerk at Thompson's Variety Store and Gibson's. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Washington. Following her retirement, Jeanette took up quilting and sold her quilts in the Amana's and at local craft shows. She liked going to the races to watch her son and grandson race and she loved socializing with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Sherman of Tracy, Iowa; son, Denny Banks of Washington, Iowa; six grandchildren: Misti Sherman; Teiara Sherman; Kelly Banks; Stacy Keeler; Brandon Banks and wife Kirsty; and Brittni Dommer; as well as 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Chalupa and wife Joanne of Washington, Iowa; and sister, Norma Loeffler of West Liberty, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loyal, in 2011; son-in-law, Marion Sherman; three brothers, Lauren, Ferd and Bob Chalupa; sister, Jane Hensel; and an infant brother, Junior Chalupa.
