Jean Charlotte Singleton, age 94, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Washington County Hospital.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Washington with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. Family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. at the church Saturday morning. A memorial has been established for the American Stroke Association. Jean was born November 1, 1922 in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Shaffer) Kessel. She attended school in Brighton, Iowa. Jean was united in marriage to Bernard R. Singleton on January 18, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri.
Jean resided in Brighton until 1955 when she moved to Washington. She worked as a bookkeeper for Mattes Tax Service and as the office secretary for Keating Steel. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Washington and of the Fortnightly Club.
She is survived by her son, Bernard R. Singleton, Jr. of Washington, IA; daughter, Charlotte Butler of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandson, Eric Harbit and wife Melissa of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter, Holly Parpan and husband Kevin of Dexter, MI; and twin great-granddaughters, Skylar and Savannah Parpan.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sisters, Merna Robison and Dorothy Farmer.
