Obituary

Janice Ann Sojka, age 72, of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington following a lengthy illness.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Visitation will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Prayer services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the M.L. McCreedy Home. Janice was born January 25, 1943, in Keokuk County, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Opal (Adams) Keller. Following the death of her mother, Janice and her sister, Marietta, were raised by their father and stepmother and later by their Aunt Thelma and Uncle Everett Lewis of Washington. Janice attended Hayesville Elementary School, Walnut Country School and later attended Brighton Elementary School. She graduated from Washington High School in 1962 and attended Cosmetology School in Burlington, Iowa. Janice was united in marriage to Gerald G. Sojka on February 8, 1964, in Washington, Iowa.

Janice worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and later at Perfex Manufacturing prior to starting a family. Janice was a homemaker and helped her husband with the family farming operation. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington. Janice enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, was an avid reader and a good cook. She was known for her angel food cakes and potato salad.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Sojka of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter, Rhonda Johnson and husband Eric of Bellville, Ohio; son, Ronald Sojka and wife Shelli of Ainsworth, Iowa; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Marietta Cook of Bowling Green, Kentucky; step brother, Pete Swearingen of What Cheer, Iowa; and half siblings, David Keller and wife Kathy of Derby, Iowa; Vicki Thomas of What Cheer, Iowa; Patti Davis of Des Moines, Iowa; and Dennis Keller of Hayesville, Iowa; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her step mothers, Lavetta and Thelma, and her aunt Thelma and uncle Everett Lewis.
