Janice Ann Newhouse, age 70, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, October 07, 2012 at her residence following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. Visitation will begin 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 8th at the Immanuel Lutheran Church where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Monday evening. Interment will take place 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 9 at LaFayette Cemetery in rural Harper, Iowa. Janice was born September 28, 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Bruce H. and Ruth E. (Tiller) Clifton. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa and later graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Janice was united in marriage to Charles E. Newhouse on March 21, 1964 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Janice worked as a Pharmacist until her retirement. Following retirement she was a web designer. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served as President of the Church Council. Janice was very active in Project Green in Iowa City. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, needlework, knitting, model railroading and was proud to have knitted and donated hats and booties for the Preemie Project at the University of Iowa Hospitals.

She is survived by four children; son, Edward Newhouse and Sheri Crockett of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Ruth Newhouse and husband James Beardmore of Mooresville, North Carolina; son, Matt Newhouse and wife Jill of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Ann Bennett and husband James of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren; one sister, Joan Consolver of Orlando, Florida; and one brother, Brad Clifton and wife Lauren of Atlanta, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 2007.
