Janet Marie Bauer, age 87, of West Chester, Iowa, died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Halcyon House in Washington following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2018, at the West Chester United Methodist Church with Pastor Moody Colorado officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Thursday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the West Chester United Methodist Church. Janet was born October 23, 1930, in West Chester, Iowa, the daughter of Gale and Phyllis (Fisher) Reif. She graduated from West Chester High School in the spring of 1948. Janet was united in marriage to Joe Bauer on December 27, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Janet lived in the West Chester Community her entire life. She was an active member of the West Chester United Methodist Church where she was involved with the United Methodist Women (UMW). She held offices of UMW at the District and State level. Janet was Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and also served as a grand officer. She was a 4-H leader for many years while her children were active in 4-H. Janet's flower gardens were her pride and joy. The countless hours she spent caring for her flowers was evident in the meticulous weed free flower gardens. Janet was a devoted wife, mother and a proud grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of seventy years, Joe Bauer of West Chester, IA; son, Robert (Lori) Bauer of Washington, IA; daughter, Vicky (Don) Showalter of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Jane (Jim) Beranek of Charles City, IA; daughter, Judy Showalter of Kalona, IA and friend Jim Windy; eleven grandchildren, Chris (Jody) Bauer, Matt (Bethany) Bauer, Melissa (Scott) Kahler, Brent (April) Showalter, Jami Beranek and friend Ryan Beckman, Jonna (Zach) Junker, Jenni (Ryan) Cunningham, Jessi Beranek, Annie (Luke) Gingerich, Chad (Sarah) Showalter, Josh (Katie) Showalter, as well as 26 great grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her brother, William (Marge) Reif and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters – Donna Lincicum and Pat Johnson; and a great grandson, Elijah Cunningham.
