Obituary

James Thomas Sievers "Jim" was born on September 23, 1962 to Lowell and Norma (Christensen) Sievers in Clinton, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Andover, Iowa. He attended school in Miles, Iowa and graduated from East Clinton High School with the Class of 1981. He went on to obtain his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in 1985.

On December 28, 1985, Jim was united in marriage to Lynette Mommsen in Preston, Iowa. There were two children born to them: Kelsey and Brad.

Jim was a gentle, faith-filled man with a heart for service. Mission trips to Mississippi and Haiti were among the highlights of his life. He was a friend to all and never spoke an unkind word. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved watching sports on television and rarely missed a Cubs, Bears, or Cyclones game. He was a past member of the Morning Optimists Club in Washington, Iowa. Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family.

Jim had worked as an Environmental Specialist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for twenty-four years and had recently decided to change careers and go back to school. He was currently a student at Des Moines Area Community College.

After a year-long struggle with depression, Jim died on Monday, October 28, 2013, having attained the age of fifty-one years, one month, and five days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Norma.
