James M. "Jamey" Shafer, age 40, of Coppock, Iowa died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at his home following a six year battle with cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Visitation will begin 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the West Chester Cemetery in West Chester. Jamey was born May 23, 1970 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Butch and Paula (Johnson) Shafer. He lived most of his life in Washington and Brighton. Jamey attended school in Washington and Fairfield. Jamey was united in marriage to Brenda Harford on January 17, 1989 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked for Chesapeek Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids and Crane Valve in Washington until his health forced his retirement. Jamey served as Mayor of Coppock, Iowa for four years.
Jamey was a member of ABATE Motorcycle organization. He enjoyed fishing, collecting eagles, riding motorcycles, hunting and trapping and helping other people.
Jamey is survived by his wife, Brenda Shafer of Coppock; daughter, Tiffany Shafer of Washington; son, J.J. Shafer of Washington; daughter, Melissa "Moo" Shafer of Coppock; son, Dakota Shafer of Coppock; parents, Butch and Paula Shafer of Coppock; father-in-law, Steve Harford of Cedar Rapids; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jamey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Madge Sabin; Paul Johnson; and Moon and Beatrice Shafer as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
