James R. "Jim" Miksch of Washington, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at his home following a year and a half battle with cancer.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will take place at a later date. Jim was born January 21, 1942 in Washington, the son of Robert and Agnes (Richardson) Miksch. He attended school in Washington, Iowa graduating in 1959. He was united in marriage to Lynda Moore on July 2, 1961 at the Grace Hill Moravian Church.
After graduating from Parsons College in 1962, Jim worked as a computer programmer for Bendix Corporation in Teterboro, NJ from 1962 until 1965, and for Caterpillar Tractor, Inc. in Davenport, IA and East Peoria, IL as a systems analyst from 1965 until 1972. Jim and his family then moved to the family farm west of Washington where he farmed for the remainder of his life.
He was elected as a Washington County Supervisor and served for six years, including three years as Chair. He also served as President of the Washington County Farm Bureau Board, as a member of Federal Land Bank Board, and Secretary of the New Alliance Farm Service Board. Jim was a past member of the Washington Rotary International Organization.
Jim was a long time member of the United Presbyterian Church, serving at various times as Elder and Treasurer. At the time of his death, he was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Lynda, sons Richard (Elise) of Frisco, TX, Timothy (Ann), of Rochester, MN, and Daniel, of The Colony, TX, four granddaughters and two grandsons. He is also survived by siblings Edward (Judy) Miksch of Scottsdale, AZ, Gretchen (Doug) Denton of Rochester Hills, MI, and George (Pat) Miksch of Port St. Lucie, FL; 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
