James L. "Jim" Edwards, III, age 59, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at his residence in Washington after a lengthy illness.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2015, at Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Don Clark officiating. Calling hours will begin 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Thursday evening. Interment will take place at the Cambrian Cemetery in rural Columbus Junction, Iowa. A general memorial has been established. Jim was born August 16, 1955 in Washington, Iowa, the son of James Llewellyn and Louise (Moothart) Edwards. He graduated from Danville High School and studied Criminal Justice at Southeast Community College in Burlington, Iowa. Jim was united in marriage to Sandy Miller on March 7, 1981 in Swedesburg, Iowa.

Jim worked as a Correctional Officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison, Iowa, a Police Officer in Albia, Iowa and a State Trooper in Nebraska. He was a firefighter in Washington, Iowa and ended his work serving others as a Security Guard for Securitas in Iowa City, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Edwards of Washington, Iowa; son, Chris Edwards and wife Robyn of Burlington, Iowa; son, Shawn Edwards of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Christina Edwards of Wapello, Iowa; son, Jeremy Edwards of Galesburg, Illinois; sister, Carolyn Brown of Columbus Junction, Iowa; sister, Cheryl Bonebright and husband Jim of Danville, Illinois; sister, Carletta Edwards of Manhattan, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
