Jack Norman Moore, age 80, of Brighton, Iowa, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. General calling hours will begin 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church where the family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Jack was born February 20, 1936, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Albert Reed and Mabel Irene (Paul) Moore. He attended various country schools in Washington County and graduated from Washington High School in 1954. Jack was united in marriage to Doris Blatter on December 25, 1955, in Washington, Iowa. Jack was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served honorably in the United States Army.
Jack and Doris lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, from 1955 until 1957. They lived in Washington, Iowa, from 1957 until they moved to Brighton in 1967. Jack was employed by the Washington State Bank and Rubio Savings Bank of Brighton. He later owned and operated Moore Computer.
He was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was a loyal attender of Bible Study and Sunday School. Jack served for a time as Brighton City Clerk and was an officer of the Southeast Iowa Bankers Association. He was proud to be a participant on the May 2015 Honor Flight. Jack loved to read and spend time outdoors, especially the backyard cookouts at the fire pit with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Moore of Brighton, Iowa; daughter, Peg Harris and husband John of Washington, Iowa; son, John Moore and wife Annette of Los Angeles, California; son, Jeff Moore of Brighton, Iowa; five grandchildren: Chris Harris and wife Jess; Carrie Lueck and husband Brian; Benjamin Moore; Julian Moore; and Jake Moore; and five great grandchildren: Jack, Bowen and Lucy Harris; and Emma and Thomas Lueck. He is also survived by one brother, James Moore and wife Keiko of San Francisco, California; sister-in-law, Joanne Gladden ; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, David Moore; daughter, Jackie Moore; and brother, Jerry Moore.
