Obituary

Jack McFarland, age 77, of Ainsworth died Wednesday February 17, 2010 at his residence following a sudden illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 am Saturday February 20, 2010 at the Ainsworth Community Church with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation will begin 12:00 pm Friday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth. A memorial has been established to Marr Park in Ainsworth. Donald Eugene "Jack" McFarland was born on August 6, 1932 in Brighton, Iowa the son of Robert E. and Katherine (Klockenga) McFarland. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1950. Jack was united in married to Sharon Blodgett on June 21, 1968. They later divorced. He was a lifelong resident of the Ainsworth community. Jack was the supervisor at Protein Blenders in Iowa City for 35 years. Jack owned and operated Jack's Caf? in Ainsworth, Iowa and he and his brother Dick owned and operated the Standard Station in Ainsworth. He served in the National Guard for several years.

He enjoyed going to the Old Kremery Theater and going out for dinner with his special friend Carolyn Prymek. Jack enjoyed traveling, going out to eat with his family and friends, going for car rides and enjoyed the scenery. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and their activities. Jack was an avid coin collector.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Jackie Weise and husband Nathan of Olds; son, Shawn McFarland and wife Jenny of Ainsworth; grandchildren, Christopher Linton, Madison and Savana Weise, Talon and Mason McFarland; brother, Richard McFarland and wife Bebe of Ainsworth; and three sisters, Phyllis Lopshire of Ainsworth; Delores Coleman and husband Ben of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and Wilma Humphreys and husband Dale of Minot, North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Walter, Lloyd, James, Robert Jr., and Billy; and one sister, Irene Hawkins.
