Ira Lorain McConnell, age 82, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017, at his home in Washington.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends. Military honors will be accorded at 3:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent for Ira's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com .

Ira was born February 27, 1935, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dale Edgar and Beula Etola (Watson) McConnell. He attended school in Osceola, Iowa, where he resided before moving to Washington in 1962. On July 28, 1978, he was united in marriage to Roberta White.

Ira worked as a Jailor at the Washington County Safety Center for twelve years before retiring in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, gardening, and traveling to visit his family. Ira also proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1960.

Survivors include his wife, Bert McConnell of Washington, Iowa; son, Ed (Paula) McConnell of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Kaylene (Daniel) Reinhart of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, Clifford (Michelle) Dennison of Ottumwa, Iowa; daughter, Michelle (Aaron) Beck of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother, Larry McConnell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beula; father, Dale; stepfather; mother-in-law; father-in-law; and grandparents.
