Howard John Lunning, age 82, of Crawfordsville, Iowa, passed away December 12, 2017 at his residence.

Cremation has occurred and per Howard's wishes, no services are planned. General calling hours will be held from noon until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Howard was born July 12, 1935 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Henry and Matilda (Baer) Lunning. He graduated from Washington High School in 1954 and served in the United States Army for 2 years, honorably discharging in 1956. He graduated from the State University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1960. Howard was united in marriage to Barbara Allen on March 9, 1986 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Howard retired from farming, having started in 1961 on the family farm. He then drove semis for several years. He was a past member of Farm Bureau and had been a director and voting delegate from Washington County. He played the trumpet in his high school band, the Army band and the Municipal Band and was a member of the Toastmasters.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lunning of Washington, IA; sister, LeAnna Watson and husband Bruce of Washington, IA; niece, Pam Kleese and husband Troy of Des Moines, IA; and nephew, J.B. Watson and wife Abbe of Bondurant, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Charles Lunning.
