Helga E. Palmer, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday November 26, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 Tuesday evening. Helga was born May 2, 1935, in Offenbach, Germany, the daughter of Johann Peter and Marie (Hebbel) Horn. She attended school in Offenbach where she graduated from high school. Helga was united in marriage to Pat Palmer on May 2, 1962, in Macon, Georgia.
Helga and Pat lived in Massachusetts, Nebraska, England, and Wyoming before moving to Iowa in 1978. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was very social and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Pat Palmer of Washington, Iowa; son, Ron Palmer and Clara of Ainsworth, Iowa; grandchildren Chelsea Nichols of Washington, Iowa; and Dustin Palmer of Coppock, Iowa; as well as several great grandchildren.
Helga was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Horst Hebbel and Heinz Horn; and sisters, Anne Chalupa and Elli Wilkins.
