Helen Mae Baker, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the Halcyon House in Washington after failing in health.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Spilger officiating. Visitation will begin noon Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Helen was born June 14, 1928, in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Toney and Della Marie (Butterbaugh) Bringman. Helen attended school in Wellman, Iowa, and graduated from Wellman High School in 1946. Helen was united in marriage to Lewis Clark Baker on April 21, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Helen was a life resident of Washington County. Prior to her marriage she worked as a waitress at Winga's Café in Washington. Helen enjoyed gardening, working with her flowers, and taking care of her pet bird and dogs.
She is survived by her son, Donald Baker and wife Julie of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Deborah Simmering and husband David of Washington, Iowa; three granddaughters; four great grandchildren; sister, Alice Boldt of Portland, Oregon; brother, Owen Bringman of Wellman, Iowa; brother, Jimmie Bringman and wife Pat of North Liberty, Iowa; brother, Joshua Bringman and wife Golda of Kinross, Iowa; sister, Mary Ellen Cobb of Haslett, Texas; brother, William Bringman and wife Thelda of Wellman, Iowa; and sister, Eva Kay Stewart and husband Larry of Smyrna, Georgia.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1994; son, John Baker in 2004; brothers, Oren and Richard Bringman; sister, Ruth Ann Herr; and infant brother, Enos Bringman.
