Obituary

Harold C. Wylie, age 84, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the United Presbyterian Home from complications related to injuries incurred while working at his home.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin noon Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Washington County Hospice and the Washington County Y Building Fund. Online condolences may be sent for Harold's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com .

Harold was born May 25, 1931, in Washington, Iowa, the son of George McDonald "Don" and Edna V. (Chilcote) Wylie. He attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1948. Harold attended Washington Junior College for a brief time then joined the United States Navy for 4 years. Following his time in the navy, he worked for McDougall Hartman in Peoria, Illinois. He married Verlee M. Kaufman on August 31, 1957. In 1959, he started farming north of Washington and remained engaged in farming until his retirement.

Mr. Wylie was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and trustee. He was also a member of the Y's Men's Club and volunteered for many community events. Harold was leader of the 4-H Pony Club for over 30 years and was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 2011 for his many years of service. In 2012, Harold enjoyed taking part in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with friends and family.

He was actively involved with the Washington County Fair, where he spent many hours volunteering. Harold loved to share his passion of horses with the youth of the community. This passion for horses would take him on cattle drives and trail rides. One of his joys was cattle penning with his horses. He was a member of the Hawkeye Penning Club where he regularly attended events. Harold enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye Basketball & Football, and spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events

Harold is survived by his daughters, Susan Adam and husband David of Kalona, Iowa and Sara Dew and husband Todd of Reed City, Michigan; three grandsons: Justin Adam and his wife Jenny of New Hampton, Iowa; Jordan Adam of Kalona, Iowa; and Reese Dew of Reed City, Michigan; and one sister, Donna Wheelan of Washington, Iowa.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2015; and two sisters, Virginia Knupp and Martha Witthoft.
