Harold E. Strum, age 90, of Kalona, Iowa died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, October 2nd at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with Rev. Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for Paws and More Animal Shelter, the Elevator Fund at the United Methodist Church or Brownlee Health Center. Harold was born October 12, 1919 near Wellman, Iowa the son of Ernest M. and Ruth (Oldfield) Strum. He attended Straw College Country School in Washington County and graduated from Washington High School in 1938. Harold was united in marriage to Betty Kolosick on September 30, 1939 in Memphis, Missouri.
He was a life resident of Washington County having farmed all of his life southeast of Richmond. Harold was a member of the United Methodist Church of Washington and was a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Order of the White Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star and Farm Bureau.
Harold is survived by his wife Betty Strum of Kalona, Iowa; son Bill Strum of Kalona, Iowa; daughter Barb Brown and husband Steve of Merriam Woods, Missouri; grandson Jeff Stannard and wife Valerie of Appleton, Wisconsin; granddaughter Jodi Klebe and husband Kevin of Riverside, Iowa as well as four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Willard.
